TRANSFORMING LEARNING IN WALES

Skills Academy Wales/Academi Sgiliau Cymru

The learning experience for many people in Wales will be transformed as a result of an innovative venture between providers of work-based learning. Ten providers have formed a collaborative partnership called Skills Academy Wales, which will provide a strong network capable of delivering high-quality learning expected by employers, individuals and communities as part of a multi million pound contract.

Neath Port Talbot College, which will lead the partnership, has formed the new work-based learning partnership with Learn-Kit Limited, Jobforce Wales, Llanelli Rural Council (LRCT), ACO Training Limited, Swansea Itec Limited and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.

Mark Dacey, Principal of the College said: “This partnership will set the mould for the delivery of work based learning for the future.“It brings together a diverse range of outstanding and like-minded providers who are not only ready to respond to the challenges made by the Welsh Assembly Government, but are ready to lead on these challenges by widening the options available for all learners and reducing the costly duplication of provision. We will build on the outstanding quality profile of each of the individual organisations by moving to excellence across Skills Academy Wales.”

Skills Academy Wales brings together a combined experience of more than 175 years of training learners of all ages. It will provide unrivalled opportunities for anyone who wants to learn, whether they are unemployed, or a budding apprentice trying to decide which route to follow, or a multi-million pound global business that requires a full ‘training needs analysis’.

It will also provide the widest range of vocational choice available in Wales, whatever the type of training is required.

Rosemary Grimshaw, Managing Director of Learn-Kit Ltd said: “We are delighted to be part of this innovative and pro-active partnership, which leads the way in the transformation of learning in Wales. Skills Academy Wales is about collaboration in the pursuit of excellence and each partner organisation brings individual strengths to the partnership whilst sharing the common commitment for quality in learning.”

All Partners support the comments adding: “As specialist providers, we are looking forward to working together to broaden the range of learning opportunities for our learners and the businesses we work with. It will enable us to meet the challenges of the future as well as sustaining continuity for our clients.”
